What to Expect After Breast Augmentation in Huntersville
Breast augmentation is an extremely popular surgery that allows women to enhance the size and shape of their breasts so that they can be more confident in clothes and swimsuits. Many patients know what results they desire from the procedure but don’t have a clear understanding of what to expect following the surgery. Dr. Erik Miles presents all of his patients at North Charlotte Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery with a clear understanding of what to expect prior to the procedure.
The Day After Surgery
Following breast augmentation in Huntersville, Dr. Miles will provide you with detailed care instructions and any necessary medication. Incision sites are closed with absorbable sutures and a special surgical tape to reduce the appearance of scarring. Because the procedure is preformed on an outpatient basis, patients are able to return home following the surgery to begin healing and relax in the comfort of their own home. Generally, the first 24 to 48 hours are the most uncomfortable as the body adjusts to the surgery. Some patients may experience side effects from the anesthesia, including nausea. You will likely be sore, so it is best to take a break from normal activities during the first few days. If a friend or family member is able to assist you, at least in the first 48 hours, it would be very beneficial so that you may allow your body to rest and heal.
The Week After Surgery
The majority of side effects will occur during the first week. Bruising and swelling is very common as your body adjusts to the change. Some discomfort may persist and is expected. Continue to use any medication that has been prescribed to alleviate pain. A compression bra, or sports bra, should be worn every day for at least the first week and will aid in the breast augmentation recovery process. The garment will reduce swelling and prevent unnecessary movement and jostling that will occur with regular daily activities.
Two to Six Weeks After Surgery
Within two to four weeks following surgery, the majority of the side effects will have subsided. Two weeks after the surgery, most patients can return to work and return to regular daily activities, with the exception of strenuous exercise. As the swelling continues to diminish, you will be able to see the results of the surgery. The compression (sports) bra should be worn at least until the end of the second week for its compression benefits and ease of wear. After two weeks you can return to normal bras that do not contain underwire, and compression garments are no longer necessary.
Six To Twelve Months After Surgery
The final results of the surgery should be apparent within six to twelve months following surgery. The breasts should appear and feel natural. Your scars should have healed completely and likely have faded.
