Restore Your Youth With Brow Rejuvenation in Charlotte

Aging is inevitable but that doesn’t mean we have to just roll over and accept it. Wrinkles around the eyes and forehead prominently display this aging, often far sooner than we would like. For patients looking to reduce these signs of aging, Dr. Erik Miles of North Charlotte Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery may recommend brow rejuvenation, otherwise commonly referred to as a “brow lift”.

What is brow rejuvenation?

plastic surgeryBrow rejuvenation goes by many names. It’s often referred to as a brow lift or forehead lift, but it is more clinically known as an upper rhytidectomy. Brow rejuvenation reduces the wrinkles in the forehead by repositioning loose or sagging skin. The procedure also affects vertical creases between the eyebrows and will lift the brow so that sagging brows don’t hood the upper eyelids. These facial wrinkles often make a person appear angry or sad. The result of brow rejuvenation is a more youthful and alert appearance.

What causes tissue in the forehead and brow to sag?

As part of the natural aging process, the skin loses elasticity as collagen production decreases. The muscles in the face weaken, creating spaces where skin collects and creases. Exposure to the sun and smoking amplify these effects, sometimes causing wrinkles on men and women who may only be in their twenties.

Am I a good candidate for brow rejuvenation?

img11Individuals who suffer from unsightly wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, or upper eyelid hooding may be candidates for brow rejuvenation in Charlotte. Ideal candidates will be healthy non-smokers with clear expectations for the procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Erik Miles will evaluate the skin’s elasticity and overall health to determine if brow rejuvenation is the best procedure for you. Dr. Miles may suggest an alternate procedure such as blepharoplasty or a facelift. These procedures can also be combined with non-surgical procedures like dermal fillers and Botox to achieve the desired results.

What should I expect during the brow rejuvenation procedure?

Brow rejuvenation can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Prior to surgery, patients will be administered an oral sedation or general anesthesia. The surgical approach will vary based on the individual needs of the patient and the condition of their skin and hairline. The incision will either be made within the hair so scars are very well hidden, or small incisions can be made around the hairline for an endoscopic approach.

Once the proper incision is made, the muscles causing the wrinkles can be removed along with any excess tissue. The eyebrows and any necessary areas can be lifted to a more desirable location and sutured into place. Once the necessary adjustments are made, the incisions are closed.

What is the recovery process like?

Some minor swelling and bruising is expected following the procedure. The initial healing process is typically 10 to 14 days, with most people able to return to work and their normal activities after 14 days. Healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling subsides. Dr. Miles will provide you with any necessary medications and specific care instructions for your recovery.
