Botox in Huntersville

Botox has redefined aging gracefully over the past decade. The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin is most commonly known by the brand name Botox, however there are other competitors as well such as Dysport.  It is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure available today. First approved for cosmetic use in 2002, over 4 million patients receive Botox treatments each year. There’s a good reason that this treatment continues to be a popular treatment in the Huntersville, Lake Norman, and Charlotte area–it works.

As we age, we notice more fine lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet and other signs of aging appearing in the mirror. This is because the skin thins as it ages and as a result becomes more susceptible to wrinkling and creasing from repetitive muscle movements. Without incisions or lengthy recovery periods, Botox injections offer patients a highly effective method of reducing the appearance of wrinkles and also preventing new wrinkles from forming.

What is the Botox injection procedure like?

Botox, when injected into targeted areas, effectively blocks the nerves that control facial muscle movement–the movement that creates visible fine lines and wrinkles over time. By immobilizing these muscles, the area around the muscles is released and the appearance of wrinkles is reduced as a result. The result is smoother skin. Since most wrinkles and lines form as a result of repetitive muscle movements over time, releasing these muscles prevent lines from occurring and deepening.

Using a fine needle, Dr. Miles will inject the Botox directly into wrinkle prone areas–like the space between the eyebrows that furrows with worry, the forehead, and “crow’s feet” around the eyes. The procedure is quick and requires no incisions. It is possible to come into our North Charlotte office over a lunch break and return to normal activity directly after. There may be slight bruising at the injection site which is temporary. Injections are tolerated extremely well due to the small size of the needle.

Am I a good candidate for a Botox injection?

Botox injections are for both men and women.  The treatment is a minimally invasive cosmetic solution for adults of almost any age.  The procedure is perfect for adults who are starting to notice the signs of aging and wish to slow down the process. Moisturizers and cosmetics only go so far, and facial surgeries, while effective in treating wrinkles and fine lines, are often too drastic for the desired results. In fact, Botox works better than surgery to address some issues related to facial aging.  Botox offers patients the perfect low commitment solution–powerful and effective without spending a minute in a recovery room.

Botox treatments last between three to five months on average, and therefore require continued treatment to maximize the results and maintain the cosmetic benefits.  The more consistent the treatments, the better the results.  The frequency of injections depends on each individual patient’s results and desired outcomes.

Studies have also shown that Botox can be effective in treating other conditions including migraine headaches, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), relieving bruxism and controlling spasms that occur in the neck and eyes. Dr. Miles is available to discuss Botox’s alternative applications during your consultation appointment.

Patients enjoy a younger, more relaxed facial appearance as a result of Botox treatment. If you are interested in the benefits of this popular treatment, call our Huntersville office to schedule a consultation appointment. Dr. Miles takes time with each patient to discuss desired outcomes and assess individual patient needs. The first appointment is typically longer than subsequent appointments because Dr. Miles will explain the treatments in great detail and listen to your specific goals.
